Initial concept proved too complex and too confusing for the viewer. I needed to create and present a more structured and less confusing storyline. So I came up with the idea of what if some of the toys and ornaments came to life through the power of music. Then once they come alive they begin an adventure and form relationships...bromance of sorts..!
I created a very quick timeline for events and short photo story board to illustrate the key frames around events that take place...I set up the individual shots and would use these photos to create a storyboard..It was also helpful in the way that I could select the areas to shoot in and troubleshoot each shoot on the storyboard before I began to animate the toys.. This was essential as not every scene would be shootable..and it would create a better workflow to shoot around the scenes that didnt work and/or move the location and then shoot it. Analysing the photos and each shot it was easier to see what was working and what had to be omitted.
Establishing the characters, some movement and creating the scene shots 1-3 listed below.

Really enjoyed working on this project 2 regrets.... would have been great to have had all the paperwork, storyboard etc done and dusted in the first few days..As initial concept looked good on paper but looked awful and very uncohesive when shot...Perhaps a mixture of storyboarding and some test shots and Reci before digging in and creating long shot list, complex storyboard etc...Would also have been great to have more time to create a stronger tour of the world scene with the characters..postcards from the various location could have done with half a day in Photo shop...would also have been good to have enough time to create small animations for the characters emotions...eg a smile or twinkle in the eye all achievable in Aftereffects but just ran out of time in the end..
Below is the finished product may go back this week and add in some of the above recommendations..
